Some careers are carefully planned. Others begin as something temporary and quietly turn into something lasting.
That has been my story.
When I joined ESS-FOOD 11 years ago, it was meant to be a three month assignment. The company was implementing SAP and needed someone to clean up debtors and inventory data. I had just moved from Aarhus to Roskilde and taken a leap to start over on Zealand. I thought I was stepping into something short term. Instead, it became my next chapter.
My background is in economics and internal audit. I quickly realised that I am not driven by theory. I am driven by practice. I enjoy numbers that add up, reconciliations that close, and processes that make sense. I like structure. I like clarity. I like being able to say that something is finished and correct.
That is why monthly closing is still one of my favourite parts of the job. The pace is high and the days are long, but when everything falls into place and the numbers are right, it is deeply satisfying.
Loyalty has always been natural to me. I spent many years in my previous company before joining ESS-FOOD. If I am challenged, trusted and surrounded by good colleagues, I see no reason to leave. In our finance team, seniority is high and we often joke that after 11 years I am still the new one. That says something about the culture.
What has kept me here is trust and responsibility. I have the freedom to structure my own work and accountability to deliver. That balance creates engagement. You care because it matters.
I thrive in structure, so periods of uncertainty can be challenging. In those moments, the team makes the difference. We support each other and focus on what we can control.
What I bring to ESS-FOOD is structure, dedication and a service mindset. I connect colleagues across functions and countries, create clarity and make sure the foundation is solid.
In a volatile world, finance is the anchor. We make sure the numbers are right.
That responsibility means something to me.
And that is why, 11 years after what was supposed to be three months, I am still here.
